The social norm I violated was the courtesy norm. The value of courtesy is having good manners towards other people. We build our reputation by being a respectable and thoughtful person. Being courteous is important; we don’t want to be surrounded with rude and impolite people. We want people to follow the norms at all times, in this case, the courtesy norm and also, to be considerate. The courtesy norm acts as a mechanism of social control by creating a social conduct, we need norms in order to know what is wrong and what is right. If we didn’t have this norm no one will have respect towards others. Courtesy is part of what we are; it is a norm that defines how we behave. For this assignment, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do to violate this norm but until I was there I decided I was going for it and I was going to cut in front of a line. Before violating this norm, I predicted that what I was going to do was going to cause some irritation and anger. They would maybe think my parents raised me well. Throughout his childhood He always fought with his dad but later was able to get along, Abraham and his mother never got along even till the day she passed away.
